Forensic Assessment can undertake the examination of all types of firearms and ammunition in relation to both criminal and civil cases.

The items we examine include hand guns, rifles, shotguns, air weapons (pistol and rifle), stun guns, tazer weapons, deactivated weapons, modified weapons, guns that have been “home-made”, CS gas (and similar) sprays, “disguised” weapons, and all types of ammunition, and includes Section 5 weapons and ammunition that are subject to general prohibition.

The majority of our casework in this respect deals with:

  • Legal classification of all firearms and ammunition in terms of current legislation namely the Firearms Act 1968 and all Amendments. This includes test firing when required.
  • Assessment of the overall mechanical condition of firearms, including those which have been deactivated.
  • Trigger pull force issues
  • Measurement of the kinetic energy of air weapons to establish whether or not they exceed the legal limit at which at which a Firearms Certificate is required.
